Consequences is what happens after a behavior.
Every behavior is followed by a consequence. There are only 2 types of consequences. Choosing the appropriate consequence is essential to increasing or decreasing behavior.
Reinforcers
Increases or maintains the future occurrence of the behavior. In other words, the child will continue to do the behavior because they are being rewarded.
-Positive: Giving Rewards, Attention, Favorite activities
-Negative: Reducing tasks, removing non-preferred activity/circumstance
Children should be rewarded continuosly when they are calm, appropriate, showing any form of positive behavior

Punishers
Decreases or eliminates the behavior from occurring in the future. In other words, the child will stop doing the behavior because they are not rewarded with what it is they want.
-Positive: Adding things child doesn’t like
-Negative: Removing things the child does like (i.e. your attention, a computer game)
Children should be punished when they display problem behavior
